NYE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, INC.
Nye Goes Nuts - Where Did It Come From?
The first 'Nye Goes Nuts' was held in 1940 to raise money for the Nye School, Limestone School, and the area cemetery fund. The community wide event was quite a shin-dig and featured a circus theme as the main attraction.
July 2000 saw a revival of this fun family event which was put on by the Nye Community Foundation as a fund raiser to benefit the local area through grants to local college students, the fire department, area schools, and other groups.
Although the event lacked the circus theme featured in 1940, it did have its share of entertainment. It was held at the Nye School and featured a first time ever Nye School reunion, a raft race, a parade down main street, a 5K and 10K run, a no-junk auction, plenty of kid's events, food booths, and a dance. At the end of the evening the winning ticket for the ATV raffle was drawn.
The now annual event was held at the Nye School until 2007 and is now held at the Nye Volunteer Fire Hall, just a mile or so down the road from the school. There are still plenty of things for the kid's to do, good food, lots of shoot-the-bull sessions, and of course, the annual ATV auction.
This community party is free to all so drive on down and have a good relaxing afternoon. Typically Nye Goes Nuts in the afternoon on the second Saturday in July, but you better check with the Nye Community Foundation just to make sure about the dates and times.
